Monday is male atoms
Tuesday is made of bones of Adam
Wednesday is when we wear our weakness
Thursday and we long for the weekend
You aren't entitled to me or my story
Survival
But we're here my friends
And this story, it never ends
Not all, but you
Not all, but you
You can down-size me
But I can criticize you
We are through
And you can sit in the back-seat, without me
We are one voice
We're demanding
You better watch out you boys
You have a choice
You better make it
If you want to enjoy the time we have together, oh
It could be forever
To think that we were friends
But you won't change
So now it ends
Not all, but you
Not all, but you
You can down-size me
But I will criticize you
We are through
And you can sit in the back-seat, without me
Cheap leather seats and a poor view out the dirty window
Cheap talk and he's not as good a flirt as he thinks he is, so
I'm leaving this moment behind, like the dust on this drive
I'll survive
Male atoms are cold
In the back-seat
Not all, but you
Not all, but you
You can down-size me
But we will criticize you
We are through
And you can sit in the back-seat

I have been working on Male Atoms for most of 2020.
The opening line "Monday is male atoms" came to me in a dream (a cliche, I know, but it really did happen). The song spun off from there. And after hearing the story of a friend who went on a terrible date with a casually misogynist man, the song started become a critique of men who have little to no respect for women.
This is a theme that is important to me, but ultimately it is not my story to sing. I was very lucky to have my dear friend Sophia sing on this tune and lend her talented and powerful voice to this song. She truly makes it what it is.
I was also pleased to have my friend Dan play guitars and give those parts the confidence that I really can't deliver on a 6-string.
My friend Imogen was also kind enough to lend her painterly talents to the amazing cover art for this song. It's exactly what I wanted, and it's the perfect face for this song.
I spent many hours recording, producing, mixing and mastering this tune and I have learnt so much through the process. It is definitely my tightest recording yet, and is a big leap forward in my skills as a producer. Part of that is due to the help of Keo, who helped me out in the studio with some tips and knowledge that helped shape the final version of this song.
I also want to thank my partner Rowena who is incredibly supportive and kind, and also lent her voice to some backing vocals in the song.
Once the recording was finished I went all out on the music video (on YouTube via the link above). I want to thank Sophia again for coming with me up Mt. Ainslie at sunrise to record in the freezing cold for golden hour, but also my friend Madelene who came to film. It was a VERY cold morning, but the perseverance and skill of both these women resulted in a music video that I am very very proud of.
And now the song is released. I am so very proud to share it with you all. Thank you again to everyone who helped me create this single. I can't wait to follow it up with bigger and better things. <3
If you read this far, I congratulate you. And if you want to know more about how this single was produced, I encourage you to send me a message!
